Overview
I am a PostDoc at the School of Complex Adaptive Systems (SCAS) at Arizona State University’s College of Global Futures, where I lead qualitative research efforts to improve the fairness and effectiveness of AI applications in fire departments and emergency services. My interdisciplinary work spans Health Services Research (HSR), Science and Technology Studies (STS), Health Informatics, and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI).
Mission Statement
My mission is to utilize an equity lens and empathetic approach to ensure health systems provide comprehensive assistance to diverse patient groups, ultimately improving lives through research-informed practices and technologies.
Research Focus
My research centers on understanding the social construction of medical treatment and uncovering the nuances of Patient Work—the practices and labor of those navigating the health care system to manage their illnesses and treatments. I specialize in:
Enhancing health outcomes and patient experiences, particularly for those with chronic illnesses
Investigating patient narratives to inform the design of patient-centered technologies and care coordination strategies
Addressing bias in AI tools for public safety and emergency services
Leading the Patient Work Translational Team, a transdisciplinary group exploring patient work at micro and macro levels

Leading research on AI fairness in fire departments and EMS across the US
Investigating patient work in obtaining diagnoses and care for endometriosis
Analyzing and improving Social Drivers of Health (SDoH) screening tool implementation in community health clinics
